After sharing my 5 Daily Self-Care Routine as a First Time Mom post, thought I’d share my winter morning routine in a little more detail with you. I will sharing with you what my morning routine looks like before my daughter Evelyn and husband David wakes up.
While I have been loving my morning routine, this post isn’t about getting you to do it. Rather than, it is just my way to share how I figured out what works best for me. With the hope of possibly help you figure out what works for you.
As you read through what I do for my morning routine, try to think about whether it will help you or whether it doesn’t. Figure out what works for you. Set yourself up with a morning routine that will give you the best chance of succeeding but keep it simple. The goal here is to have a morning routine that you can stick to consistently and have a morning routine with things that makes you feel productive.
My morning routine is slightly different depending if it’s Davids day off, Evelyns night sleep, and just how tired I am in the mornings. Sometimes I like to sleep in too and skip my “me time” in the mornings. But for the most part this is what my morning routine has been looking and I love it!

But having said all of that, here’s what I have been doing every morning.
1. Wake-Up
My morning starts at 5:30am when Evelyn wakes up to be fed. At 6am, when I’m done nursing her and she’s back asleep, I like to get up right away and start my day with what I call my self care routine as a first time mom. I have discovered that doing my self-care routine has help me stay happy and awake through out the day to keep up with my little adventurer Evelyn.
2. Hygiene
Waking up an hour before Evelyn and David has been a great start to my mornings. It gives me time to brush my teeth, wash my face, apply toner to hydrate my skin, and throw my hair in a bun without being rushed.
3. Prayer and Gratitude
I then walk over to my living room and I like to start my mornings with prayer and gratitude. Morning prayer refreshes my body, soul and ignite the endless spirit within me. Found that prayer and gratitude is a start to have a day with a fresh mood and positivity in mind.
4. Read Bible
After spending about 15 minutes with prayer and gratitude, I read my bible. Since it is winter and mornings have been chilly, I grab my heating blanket, cozy fuzzy socks, my bible, and pens and read my bible. I am currently reading the book of Mathew. I also spend about 15 minutes reading. Reading the bible has awaken and strengthen my faith.
5. Tidy Up
After reading the bible, I like to take a few minutes to clean the living room. I fold any throw blankets, fluff up the pillows, and put away any clutter. I like to get Evelyn’s play area ready so I straighten her books and set some of her toys out.
6. Fill up my 1 gallon water bottle
I have been drinking a 1 gallon of water a day for many years now and have no problem drinking 1 gallon. In fact, when I don’t drink plenty of water I feel sluggish. Drinking one gallon of water a day has been beneficial. Mainly because I am breastfeeding. It is important that breastfeeding moms makeup for the loss of water related to milk production.
Always listen to your body and drink when you feel thirsty and stop drinking when your thirst is quenched.
7. Take my vitamins
Since I am still breastfeeding I take my prenatal vitamins, postnatal vitamins, and sometimes my lactation supplement.
8. Coffee and open blinds
The final stage of my morning routine is ending with a nice warm cup of coffee. While my coffee is brewing, I open the blinds from the living room. I like to sit on the couch facing outside the window while I enjoy sipping my coffee, until I hear Evelyn and dad having their morning talk.
How I created a morning routine
I didn’t just go from zero to this. Over time I began waking up earlier and I added in one thing at a time. One of my routines before was squeezing a quick morning workout but that didn’t work for me, since I prioritized prayer and reading the bible in the mornings.
Have a morning routine that you can stick to consistently and have a morning routine with things that makes you feel productive, with things that you can accomplished, and feel good about doing.

This is great, thank you for sharing! I also try to drink a gallon of water… sad to say I usually forget about it throughout the day 🙁
