Not knowing what to expect during bath time and just to think that babies are slippery and squirmy was stressful and overwhelming. I had never bathe a newborn baby so I didn’t know what to expect or what bath essentials I needed for my daughter Evelyn. I have learned that when it comes to minimalism and babies, my motto is to have “as little as possible, but as much as possible” While I don’t want baby things taking over my apartment. I do want to own things that will make my life easier.
My minimalist baby bath checklist is fairly small, but each item has been a must have! I look for things that will add value to our lives in some way, such as saving money or time, and adding beauty or convenience. Keeping it nice and simple!
Evelyn’s First Bath
By a stroke of luck, the first time I bathe my daughter it was nothing what I expected. She was very calm and confused during her bath which made an amazing experience for both of us. I even had a chance to capture a quick photo with my phone.
To this day my daughter loves baths and I definitely love this time to bond with her. Bath time can be such a fun, sweet bonding time for you and your little one. Ours have been filled with so many smiles and we have definitely made lots of great memories.
The Minimalist Baby Bath Checklist
1. Burt’s Bees Baby Shampoo & Wash.
When I first bathe Evelyn I started using the Baby Avenno and would bathe her 3 times a week. Unfortunately, Evelyn began developing dry skin and cradle cap.
Cradle cap causes crusty or oily scaly patches on a baby’s scalp. The condition isn’t painful or itchy. But it can cause thick white or yellow scales that aren’t easy to remove. Cradle cap usually clears up on its own in weeks or a few months.
Therefore, I gave Burt’s Bee’s a try to switch things out to see if her skin and scalp get better. It did over time and I’m still using this Burt’s Bees Baby Shampoo & Wash.
Also, switched her baths to once a week because too many baths was drying Evelyns skin. As her skin and scalp has improved night baths are now part of her bedtime routine. She loves baths! Definitely better than what I anticipated.
2. Burt’s Bees Baby Nourishing Oil.
During the newborn stage, babies usually do not need lotion on their skin. Babies already have their own natural oils. Some babies have skin that is very dry and splits, especially around the ankles and hands.
Which was Evelyn’s case, so I gently moisturize and sooth her delicate skin with Burt’s Bees Baby Oil.
This product is antioxidant-rich formula that will soften your skin too. Also, I now use the baby oil to massage her body and she loves it!
3. Summer Infant Deluxe Baby Bather.
At first, I was a little skeptical about this baby bather because of some reviews I found about being unsafe. Honestly, this bather never gave me problems. Besides taking me a long time folding it to put away but other than that, in my opinion, it is safe and secure to bathe your newborn. The baby bather has a soft mesh sling and soft head support that cradles your baby, while multiple recline positions that provides comfortable positioning for your little one, making it the perfect choice beginning with the very first sponge bath. For infants 0 months to sitting up unassisted.
4. Bath Towels.
These are from Target so affordable and cute. These are crafted in absorbent terry with sweet character details, these bath towels keep your baby cuddly and dry after bath time! Plus, with two in one pack, you’ll always have a back up!
5. Washcloth
These washcloths are crafted in absorbent terry with sweet character details, these washcloths help baby scrub-a-dub-dub! Plus, with six in one pack, you’ll always have a back up!
6. Cradle Cap Bath Brush and Baby Bath Sponge Brush
The Scalp Scrubbie is a gentle scrub brush consisting of a soft foam sponge attached to a brush The scrub brush can be used to treat the common infant condition known as cradle cap. Similar to the much-loved sponge sent home from the hospital with your newborn! Makes for a great gift, or an essential household item you never want to be without!
I listed 3 different cradle cap bath brush on my LIKEtoKNOW.it post.
7. Receiving Blankets
I have also used receiving blankets to bathe my daughter. The reason why I used a light blanket was because she was born during the winter and by swaddling her I though It could possibly stabilize her temperature. Which I feel like it did because she always seem to enjoy her baths, so that made me think and have a satisfaction that I am doing good. Also, swaddling helped out a lot because it took off a little of anxiety over baby being slippery. So it worked out pretty good for both of us.
There you have my minimal baby bath essentials.
Over time, you’ll discover which bath products work best for you and your little one. And usually, you won’t know what you love until you try some things! But for now these have been working for us and we love.
